Is a beta-hydroxyacid with keratolytic and anti-inflammatory activity. It helps dissolve the top layer of corneum cells, improving the look and feel of the skin. Salicylic acid is an effective ingredient in acne productsand as such is widely used in acne soaps and lotions. Because it is lipid soluble it can more easily reduce sebaceous follicle bloackage by penetrating the pores and exfoliating the cellular buildup. It is antimicrobial, antiseptic, and enhances the activity of preservatives.
